GREEN4SLUDGE

The GREEN4SLUDGE project aims to introduce an innovative industrial approach to the management of sludge resulting from the purification of tanning baths.
As first goal, GREEN4SLUDGE aims to minimize the volume of sludge generated through the adoption of hydrocarbonization techniques (HTC), which are definitely innovative not only for the sector but also for the method of application; indeed this technology will be applied for the first time to the sludge resulting from the treatment of industrial tanning wastewater, characterized by the presence of heavy metals and considerable environmental criticalities.
The second goal of the GREEN4SLUDGE project, more challenging but also extremely rewarding in case of success, aims to treat the fermentation broth resulting from these processes, characterized by a high concentration of carbon atoms, in order to obtain polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA).
Project period: May 2024 – February 2026
Total budget: € 1,500,000
Co-financing by Regione Toscana: € 675,000
